The Reverend Doctor Alicia Alexis was born and raised in Trinidad, West Indies. She graduated from Salem State College with a degree in Nursing in 1980. She received her Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland in Psychiatry/Administration.

Her call to ordained ministry was recognized and supported by the Diocese of Maryland. She completed a Master of Arts in Theology from St. Mary’s Seminary and University: The Ecumenical Institute of Theology. After closing her Nursing Agency of almost twenty years, she began theological studies at Bexley Hall Seminary/Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York. She was ordained first to the Diaconate, then later to the Priesthood.

In May, 2009, she completed the Doctor of Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. Her academic track was Faith and Health of the Communities. Her project dissertation addressed Healing for Brokenness: Diverse Strategies for Mending Hurting Persons in a Liturgical Context. In partial fulfillment of her doctoral degree, she provided monthly services with different liturgical styles to the people of St. John’s Church and the surrounding community.

At St. John’s Church, Havre de Grace, MD, she served as Associate Rector. There she was a member of the Harford Region Clericus, and Havre de Grace Ministerium, an Ecumenical Clergy and Lay Group.

Alicia has a daughter, Mary Coombs. Mary has her Master’s Degree from Delaware State in the area of Sports Management and Marketing. She is currently working in her field at Baltimore Community College, Maryland.

Alicia and her daughter Mary enjoy spending time together, taking long walks, and traveling. Alicia also enjoys watching old movies, listening to music, reading, and spending time at the beach.

Her favorite Scripture passage is from Romans 8: 28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (NIV)
